It has been about six months since thousands of people around the world had to vacate their offices to start working form home. At this point, it is still unknown when many people will be able to go back to work, or if they will be working from home permanently. This means that the makeshift home office you created in the first month of quarantine might be ready for an upgrade. If you are going to be working from home indefinitely, you might as well be comfortable and try to make the best of your situation. Here are some tips to make your home office the best it can be!
This might seem silly to some, but it is still so important. We are going through trying times and any type of positivity is welcome. Even though the rest of your home is already filled with things you love, you do not want to neglect your new office space. Set up an knock-knacks that you might have had in your regular office, including pictures, plants, motivational quotes and artwork. Your home office does not have to be boring or out-of-touch.
In the beginning of quarantine, it was not worth it for many people to spend money on an actual desk and ergonomic office chair. Why spend the money if you will be back in the office soon? Well, that does not seem to be the case anymore. Hunching over your kitchen island is probably not comfortable or realistic for productivity. Of course, budgets may be tight and the space available in your home might be tighter, but purchasing comfortable office equipment is a good investment for your overall health.
It is time to accept that you cannot continue to scatter your work throughout your house. Take the time to assess what kind of space you have to work with and do not be afraid to get creative! Creating office storage can be as simple as having a pencil organizer on your desk, or it can mean converting your empty living room trunk into a filing cabinet. It is important to keep your home office organized to ensure that you still have some separation of your work like and home life.

If you are working on a laptop, consider saving yourself a trip to the chiropractor by purchasing a stand. Leaning over a laptop for long periods of time is not ideal. If you have your laptop situated at eye-level, your neck will certainly thank you for it!
If you have the ability to do so, set up your office in a space that has natural lighting. Natural light can be great for your mental health and can keep you in positive spirits during the log, work-from-home-days. If you do not have that option, make sure to add a desk lamp or other light sources in your office. The light from your computer screen can cause serious eyestrain if you are in a dim-lit room.
