May is National Bike Month, and it's the perfect time of year to hop on your bike and enjoy the fresh air while getting some exercise. Luckily, the Bowling Green area has some lovely bike trails and routes for you to enjoy. Here are some top ones our real estate agents recommend riding on this May.
- Weldon Peete Park - Old Louisville Road, Bowling Green, KY 42102
Whether you prefer mountain biking or road biking, you're sure to have a good time at Weldon Peete Park. This park has its own mountain bike trail known as the Low Hollow Trail. It has a few moderate ascents and descents but is friendly enough for beginners. Weldon Peete Park borders the Barren River, so there are some lovely waterfront views along the trail.
The Greenway Trail also runs through the park. This paved, well-maintained trail is suitable for road bikes and mountain bikes. You can ride a mile or 10, depending on your preference. You'll pass through some meadows and also some beautiful woods.
- Ephram White Park - 885 Mount Olivet Rd., Bowling Green, KY 42101
Ephram White Park is one of the most popular parks in all of Warren County. It has a disc golf course, a football field, picnic shelters, a playground, and even a tree farm. In honor of National Bike Month, however, you have to take a ride along the trail.
The trail here is made from packed gravel, so it's better suited to mountain bikes than road bikes. It's 5 miles in length and passes through land that James Henry Rose, a former judge in Warren County, once owned.
- RiverWalk at Mitch McConnell Park - 426 E. Riverview Dr., Bowling Green, KY 42101
RiverWalk is a gorgeous bike and walking path stretching along the Barren River within Mitch McConnell Park. You'll pass over a bridge and some stunning stone walls as you navigate the path.
There are benches at various points along the way, so you can stop and rest if needed. The park also has public restrooms and several picnic shelters.
- Shanty Hollow Lake - Shanty Hollow Road, Bowling Green, KY 42104
Shanty Hollow Lake is a 114-acre public space in Warren County. At the center of the land, you'll find the lake, a popular destination for fishing and boating. It's surrounded by many dirt trails perfect for both hiking and mountain biking.
The terrain at Shanty Hollow Lake can be challenging at times, so this would not be the best mountain biking destination for beginners unless they are willing to walk certain sections. The trails do offer great views of the lake and some small waterfalls.
- Preston Miller Park - 2303 Tomblinson Way, Bowling Green, KY 42101
If you're looking for a place to bike with kids, Preston Miller Park would be a great choice. This 55-acre park has a one-mile circular trail that's great for casual riding. There are also other activities to keep kids busy, such as a Born Learning trail and a playground.
Preston Miller Park has several picnic shelters, restrooms, and plenty of parking spots. The trails are very smooth and well-maintained, and it's nearly impossible to get lost since they loop around the park's perimeter.
Whether you're in the mood for a long, half-day ride or a short pedal with the kids, we're certain you'll enjoy one of the biking destinations on this list.
